The Dusty Mile Road Story
Dusty Mile Road... You're probably wondering what that means. Dusty Mile Road is the street(dirt road) that connected my grandfathers land to the High desert city of landers ca. In the early 1970's, My grandfather bought a 10 acre piece of land in "homestead valley" as it was known then, and built the cabin that you see in the photo. the land was vacant of any buildings or utilities and was a good 45 minute drive from the nearest town, Yucca Valley, CA.
Little piece of New Mexico
My grandfather called his homestead cabin his "little piece of new mexico". He grew up in Texas and new mexico, and longing for the desert of his youth, he built a place of his own here in California. My Grandfather spent more than a year on his weekends and his vacations, coming from orange county to Landers to build his place.
As a kid born in and primarily raised in Long Beach CA, my sister, my cousins and I would spend most weekends and holidays with my grandparents at the desert cabin. I absolutely loved it here. My grandfather taught us a lot about desert living and desert survival. Although we never officially gave the cabin or land a name, we just simply and lovingly called it, "the cabin"... but as i reflect on it today, it should have been named paradise!
My Dusty Mile Road
While my grandfather sold his land many years ago, i still hold fond memories of "growing up" there. I still spend many weekends a year in Landers and Yucca Valley. It is my favorite place to be when I am not working. the impression of the Mojave desert, landers and desert life fill my thoughts every day. I call my company "Dusty Mile Road" out of fondness and respect of my childhood memories and my grandfather's hard work in building our little piece of New Mexico. I invite you all to spend some time with me on my new adventures down a Dusty Mile Road!
